Get Together at Black Eyed Sally's, night before Thanksgiving
So it's official...the 2009 Alumni Game Organizing Quorum is in effect. If you want to get involved in planning the reunion (excuse me while I laugh hysterically) join other Alumni at Black Eyed Sally's in Hartford, Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, 2008. We will spend the whole night (not) meticulously planning the 2009 reunion. I for one will not be doing shots and drinking too much beer. Nope. Not me. As always, EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Yes, that means you, current players. And you, pathetic alumni, that live just 5 minutes from Black Eyed Sally's and never show up for anything. Especially you.
Lots of love,
Becky
P.S. This was Ron's idea. And he told me to write all that. Really. He's not as nice as you think. He has a bit of a snarky side, huh?

General Alumni Reunion in FL this Fall
http://www.upa.org/hof/2008reunion - oh, would you look at that. They have a Hall of Fame, too. Copy Cats.
________________________________
Dear Ultimate Alumni,
Yes, there will definitely be a great Ultimate alumni reunion happening in Sarasota this fall!
Plan on being in Sarasota, FL October 31 - November 2 for some big fun!
We're still working on details and logistics etc, and we will send out more frequent emails as we get closer, but we can tell you a few things now:
Along with 3 days of great opportunities to watch some terrific Ultimate at the UPA's premiere event, the UPA Club Ultimate Championships, there will be both off-field and on-field activities for all you former legends of the game.
Off field
1. Friday night beach BBQ - same basic format as the very successful inaugural event in 2004, with food and drinks on the beach, and best of all a great opportunity to catch up with old friends.
2. Saturday evening Hall of Fame induction ceremony - indoor event, with cash bar, where we recognize the 14+ new HOF members, since the inaugural induction in 2004 ... classes of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Check out the UPA website and click on Hall of Fame to learn who's in!
On field
We are planning on alumni reunion disc play and will share additional details later. We anticipate disc play to take place from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday; wrapping up prior to the start of the Club Championships semis at 1:15 pm. So bring your cleats and enjoy playing with old team mates and friends.
Please note that this will not be a Grand Masters or Women's Masters event. The UPA will kick off a new, experimental event incorporating Grand Masters and Women's Masters in 2009. The "experimental" status will be in place until there are enough teams playing and geographic coverage to justify a "Championship Series". Look forward to more information on that soon.
HELP SPREAD THE WORD
The Alumni event in 2004 was our first attempt to reach out to Ultimate alumni. We will send follow up communications to request your assistance to expand our outreach to find people who deserve to be clued in to what's being planned.
We'd also appreciate knowing if you are interested and available to volunteer either prior to or during this Alumni event. There are a myriad of details, large and small, to set up and deliver a successful event. Please contact Suzanne Fields directly via email to find out about "volunteer" opportunities!
Thanks,
Looking forward to seeing many of you in Sarasota October 31 - November 2, 2008.

The First Annual UConn Ultimate Hall of Fame Awards Nominations and Induction Ceremony
April 2008
Please Note: There will also be regular awards Saturday. You know, Best Attempted Layout, Tightest Shorts , Most Unnecessary Leaping - the usual. :)
ELIGIBILITY AND CATEGORIES:
Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for Induction into the UUHOF:
Player: A player must be fully graduated for five years before being eligible for induction. He/she may then be considered for Induction in the sixth year of graduation. Should a player not graduate, as defined by the UUHOF, his/her case and eligibility for Induction shall be reviewed on an individual basis.
Leaders: A leader, captain or coach must be either fully graduated for five years or, if still an active coach, have coached as either a fulltime assistant or head coach on the high school and/or college and/or professional level for a minimum of 25 years. That person will then be considered for Induction in the sixth year after graduation or 26th year of active coaching.
Supporters: This category honors those persons who have spent their careers out of the spotlight, performing as backup for major players on and off the field of play. Though they often play a key role in the creation of memorable games, the public rarely knows them by name. A separate committee, composed primarily of producers, selects the inductees in this category. A supporter must be fully insane for five years or, if still an active supporter, have had a certified psychological evaluation within the last month. That person will then be considered for Induction in the sixth year after first insanity certification or 26th year of supporting. What constitutes a "significant support" shall be determined by the UUHOF, its Screening Committee(s) or Honors Committee(s). Supporters include Significant Others, Friends of Players, Tail Gaters, Parents, Always Injured Players and Other Victims.
Early Influences: Persons whose influence predated the change in drinking age from 18 to 21, but had an impact on the evolution of UConn Ultimate and inspired UConn Ultimate’s leading players.
The Dan Hurtado Memorial Award: This award in not an induction into the UUHOF, but a special recognition of a Current Player. The Dan Hurtado Memorial award is in honor and remembrance of our teammate Dan Hurtado, who passed away unexpectedly in 2007. This award is to be given to a current team member who exemplifies appreciating the here and now. This person should be friendly, loyal and trustworthy. This person is the kind of player who makes you happy that you showed up, rain or shine, win or lose. Life is unexpected and this award is for a player that helps us appreciate today.
The Jane Metzler-Potz Memorial Award - This award is in memory Jane Metzler-Potz, who was staunch Supporter of UConn Ultimate. Jane was a loved friend of many Alumni and has been missed dearly since she passed away in 2006. Considered by many to be an "angel on earth," Jane exemplified fairness, civility, and joyfulness. Therefor, this award is for a current player or alumni who strongly represents Spirit of the Game; Sportsmanship, Mutual Respect and Joy of Play.

Willington Pizza, immediately following the game
Dinner, Slide Show and Awards, Saturday Night, at Beanie's
Go to our Yahoo Group to RSVP or email Becky
So clear your schedule for the weekend, because you have plans now!
About Our Reunions
The reunion is not to be missed. Not only is everyone there, but it's a family event, with kids from babies to teenagers.
We use and abuse a whole weekend and it's darn good. There's a party Friday night, with tons of food, drink, swimming. Then we play the Reunion game Saturday morning, usually around 10 AM. Then we're off to Willington Pizza for a lot of pizza, beer and storytelling. New this year, the Saturday night party. We'll be meeting at a centrally located location, having dinner, a slide show and awards. And then there's folf and golf, typically Sunday morning.
So clear your calendar and get yourself to one of your favorite parties of the year! Even if you can't RSVP (but it really helps if you RSVP) we expect to see you soon.
Last Year's Reunion
2007 had to have been our best Reunion to date. We had an outstanding turnout and the weather was amazing.
Friday Night Warm-up:
Do you know about the party Friday night?! If you're not getting emails from us, click here and get on the list!
When: April 25th
Time: Dinner
Location: Larry G's, East Hartford. Email us for the address and directions. Or get on the Yahoo Group.
About the Game:
Our 4th Annual Reunion Game will be in the Spring of 2008. All alumni and current UConn players are always invited. This is a family event. Everyone from babies to grandparents are encouraged to come and cheer us on.
NO ALCOHOL. NO ALCOHOL. NO ALCOHOL at the field! Or we will lose the fields.
When: April 26, May 2008
Time: 12 pm (not 10am as erroneously posted here and other places.)
Location: The game will be held at Mansfield Middle School. Same as last year.
Address is 205 Spring Hill Road, Storrs, CT, 06268
Directions: Go approximately one mile south from UConn campus on Route 195, take right onto Spring Hill Road, go to end of road and take left at stop sign, Middle School will be immediately on your left.
Finding the field at the school (you can NOT see the field from the parking lot). When you drive into the school parking lot, take the left fork (yep, it will look like the wrong way). Park in lot on left side of the building. There is a vague path up the hill next to the parking lot. Walk up the hill on the left side of the building. At the top of the hill, head to your right. We're at the end. We are not playing on the lower fields on the right side of the building.
Join us for food and drink at Willington Pizza immediately after the game.
About the Saturday Night Festivities:
Clean up after the game and get a nap in. Or go straight to Beanie's. See our yahoo group for her generous invite and accomodations at her place. Meet up at a Beanie's in Coventry for dinner, pictures, and "awards." We can't wait to see you there, so don't miss it! Directions to Beanie's will be emailed to everyone on Becky's email list. Let her know if you aren't getting emails from her... (email Becky). Okay, we know you don't know who Beanie is, but she is mad cool (she has no idea what she's gotten herself into) and if you get any of our emails, you would know it's Kathleen.

2008 Alumni Game April 26th is set!!
http://www.ctultimatealumni.com/reunion.html
(Insert Comments from Boss Becky)
To RSVP for the party Friday night (puleeez RSVP) go to our Yahoo Group:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Uconn-Dukes/database
You can still come if you don't RSVP, by the way.
The Yahoo group - you need to sign up/join to post there. In the top right corner you will see a "JOIN NOW" button. Click on it and answer the typical annoying questions to create a yahoo account. YES, I know this is all a big Pain in Your A** (PIA), but work with us people. The other alternatives just aren't good enough. At the Yahoo group, you can see exactly who is going, how many people they are bringing and what they will bring to the party. And you all can do it yourself. No excel spreadsheets to update and email out to everyone. Too, yeechy!
Cripes, I hijacked the hell out of this post, huh? Well, as long as I'm at it, here's the rest of the directions for the yahoo group. Once you've created your account, you'll probably have to go your email for some confirmation crap, and stuff like that. This is a very circuitous and annoying process. It is not just you, it was this much of a PIA for the rest of us, too.
Now, go back to the yahoo group page - you did bookmark it right? Well, since you forgot, go to the Blog and click on the link in this page to get back to it. Now bookmark it! Okay, when you get there, you may or may not be signed in. Look at the very top of the page and see if you are signed in to yahoo with the account that you just created.
Okay, now if you are signed in, half way down on the left, you will see a menu list in a light blue box. The first is HOME or MESSAGES, below that you will see DATABASES. Click on DATABASES. In the next screen you will see... a table! Ha! You thought I was going to say database, didn't you?
Carrying on here, the only table there is called REUNION PARTY 2008. Click directly on that title. Now you will see some names in a list, Becky & Dennis are at the top. To add your info, click on ADD RECORD - it is in blue, in the middle of the page, just above AND below the "Records". Phew, this is a lot of typing with a 2 1/2 yr old on my lap. Now add your information. You can edit it later if necessary. Then click the blue ADD RECORD button and you're done.
See, wasn't that easy? hahahaha. Jokes on us Old Guys. Laugh it up. But seriously. Go there and RSVP you slackers.

"Mountain" Madness
Back in 1999, DanBuck published the 1st edition of the rules in a widespread email. Does anyone have them still? If so post them to the blog, or email to me and I'll post.
They may end up on the wall at Gray Knob and infect the region.
Imagine if you will, the story in the North Conway News....
We (Moose, Jonathan and I) also were discussing the creation of a new pay card - Queen of Hearts - throw her down and everyone picks 1 because no one is immune from the pain and suffering brought on by the Q of H.
Feel the pain of the Queen of Hearts. Comments?
Advanced mountain training
Moose and I have completed basic training , and low altitude training. We have moved on to the Eiger Sanction regime. Jonathan is our technical advisor.
Below is a video clip that I took on my cell phone on the summit of Mount Adams in the White Mountains, Sunday 2/17/o8.
Elevation 5774 ft, second highest to Mt Washington in the Whites. Wind speed 40-50 mph; temp 10-15F. Incredible visibility!
We hiked up Lowes Path to the Gray Knob Hut on Saturday. Made the summit on Sunday morning, then hiked out again.
Happy Birthday Moose! You are living proof that you cant keep a good man down.
The first person you see is my friend Jonathan; then Mt Washington, followed by Moose heading down, and a quick view of Mt Madison. Thats me with the sound effects.
