2008 Alumni Game Update - Date and Banquet

DATE:
We are working on a couple of dates - depending on the Sectionals schedule.
April 19th - good probability
April 26th - possible, "Spring Weekend"

We MAY land somewhere else but this is where are....
BANQUET:
I consider the day and overall concept to be open to all who were influenced by UCONN Ultimate.

We would have to make sure that everyone knows they are invited to participate...
Tentative Agenda:
Arrival - UConn Ultimate Alumni Memorial Banquet Room - I'm not sure of the best directions to get there.
Cocktails.
Small talk - individual victories of the day re-lived and embellished.
Buffet - not really food, just a foundation.
Historical synopsis powerpoint presentation of past glories - I think we (TEd) have one from the '03 reunion...
Awards presentation - special 'spectators' division.
'09 Planning committee quorum and shot contest.
Departure.

Stay Tuned.

"Mountain" Madness

I have been at the GrayKnob Hut many times over the last ten years or so. Each visit, I play a little Madness and try to turn some other people on to it as well. This last trip the hut tender Julianna and another hiker Alex, a freshman at Harvard, joined in with us (Moose and Jonathan). They suffered our abuse, weathered the recriminations, and like all newbies, had a great time because they won a few hands.

Back in 1999, DanBuck published the 1st edition of the rules in a widespread email. Does anyone have them still? If so post them to the blog, or email to me and I'll post.

They may end up on the wall at Gray Knob and infect the region.

Imagine if you will, the story in the North Conway News....

We (Moose, Jonathan and I) also were discussing the creation of a new pay card - Queen of Hearts - throw her down and everyone picks 1 because no one is immune from the pain and suffering brought on by the Q of H.

Feel the pain of the Queen of Hearts. Comments?

Advanced mountain training

John Fidler, Ted B and Jonathan Sherwood
on the summit of Mt Adams, NH

Moose and I have completed basic training , and low altitude training. We have moved on to the Eiger Sanction regime. Jonathan is our technical advisor.

Below is a video clip that I took on my cell phone on the summit of Mount Adams in the White Mountains, Sunday 2/17/o8.
Elevation 5774 ft, second highest to Mt Washington in the Whites. Wind speed 40-50 mph; temp 10-15F. Incredible visibility!

We hiked up Lowes Path to the Gray Knob Hut on Saturday. Made the summit on Sunday morning, then hiked out again.

Happy Birthday Moose! You are living proof that you cant keep a good man down.

The first person you see is my friend Jonathan; then Mt Washington, followed by Moose heading down, and a quick view of Mt Madison. Thats me with the sound effects.

Alumni Game Update

We're still trying to make contact with the UConn Team. Date is still TBD.

Stay focused and loose.

I highly recommend advanced training protocols be enacted at this point.

I'm voting for April 19th for the Reunion

I'll be out of town for almost all of May. So I like April 19th for our reunion. Could that work for us?

Alumni Game 2008

OK, its time for the Alumni to whoop up on the current crop of UConn Ultimate-ites.
This means:
1. Who's in charge at UConn that can set a date?
- April? Saturdays are good.
2. Getting a field.
- Can we call on Rob Miller to help once again with the Mansfield Fields?
3. 'Welcome' Party Friday Night
- Larry Gs. East Hartford
4. Saturday Afternoon/Night Wrap-up
- Wilimantic Pizza
- Maybe we should splerg for a Holiday Inn banquet room and photo slide show with awards.....
5. Get in shape.
- I plan an extensive program starting in April.

Who's ready?
